Ute Bruland, 81, passed away on January 29, 2025, in Port Charlotte, Florida. She was born on May 13, 1944, in Gera, Germany.
Ute spent much of her life in Germany, but later became a proud American and came to consider Florida her true home. She valued independence, self-reliance, and living life on her own terms.
She was someone who worked with her hands, both professionally and creatively, and found joy in knitting and making things with care. An avid reader, she was rarely without her Kindle close by. She was known for her intelligence, strength, and fiercely independent spirit.
Ute shared a deep love with her husband, Dennis Bruland, who preceded her in death in 2023. Their bond was central to her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Vanessa Bruland, and her grandson, Bruce Hendryx.
Ute and her daughter shared a relationship that, like many, was complex and evolving.
There were moments of connection, mutual respect, and understanding. Vanessa deeply admired her mother’s sharp mind, resilience, and life experience. Ute gave what she could in the ways she knew how, and her influence helped shape the person her daughter is today.
Ute will be remembered for her strength, independence, and quiet devotion to the life she built.
