

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Akwasi (Ak) Asumadu of Coquitlam, BC, announces his sudden passing on January 1, 2026, at the age of 47, after a brief illness. Born on December 22, 1978, in Elmina, Ghana, Akwasi was the beloved first son of Mr. and Mrs. Kwaku and Georgina Asumadu.
Akwasi was a man of great integrity and humour, known for his passion for music and his love for sports—especially soccer and basketball. He built a successful career as a Longshoreman with BCMEA, where he was highly respected for his dedication and strong work ethic.
Beyond his professional life, Akwasi cherished spending time with his family. He especially loved summer outings with his children and his niece, as well as Sunday dinners at the family home, where his warmth and laughter filled every room. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved.
Akwasi is survived by his loving children, Kwaku Asumadu Jnr. and Akua Asumadu; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kwaku and Georgina Asumadu; his sister, Akosua Asumadu; and his brothers, Kwabena Asumadu and Kofi Asumadu; along with many dear uncles, aunties, cousins, nieces, and friends who will deeply miss him.
A funeral service will be held on February 12, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Burkeview Memorial Services, located at 1340 Dominion Ave, Port Coquitlam, BC, V3B8G7, Canada. A committal service is scheduled for February 12, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Robinson Memorial Park Cemetery, 621 Robinson St, Coquitlam, BC, V3J 2L8, Canada.
