Cecelia Ann Podolak

She was born November 7, 1939 in Ollie, Iowa, to the late Leland L. and Beulah May Fye (Sloan). She married Peter Podolak, the love of her life, on August 16, 1974. She is survived by her sister, Lori Keough (husband Farrell) Frederick, Maryland; sister-in-law Lidia Podolak Sydney, Australia; nephews and nieces Marc Fye (wife Susan) of Enid, Oklahoma; Cole Fye of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Terri Rider of Naples, Florida; Darren Griffiths (wife Jackie) of Sydney, Australia; Justin Griffiths (wife Cath) of Sydney, Australia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, her parents and brother, Leland Lyle Fye. A beloved wife, dedicated academic, and accomplished designer, Cecelia's life was defined by her passion for textiles and her enduring love for her late husband, Peter Podolak.

Her career began in Winnipeg at the University of Manitoba, where she taught in the Clothing and Textiles Department. In 1972, she co-founded Cega Fabrics in West Vancouver, BC, where she shared her incredible eye for design and style with the community for over a decade.

Her creative spirit extended to teaching, as she lectured at both Capilano College and the University of British Columbia, leaving a lasting impact on her students and colleagues. After this, she started her own company, Material Things. She was an inspiration to others at seminars and workshops both in Canada and the United States. She was the author of several books published by The Taunton Press, Inc. She was also a contributing author to Threads, Sew News, Vogue Patterns and Australian Stitches magazines.

Cecelia had a Master’s Degree in Clothing, Textiles, and Merchandising, and during this phase of her life she lectured part-time at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, on Comparative Clothing Construction and Apparel Design.

Cecelia will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, love of travel, her sharp wit, and her ability to bring beauty into the world through her work and her stylish presence. She lived a life full of joy, friendship, and a deep love for her family.

A Celebration of Life with reception to follow for Cecelia, will be held Friday October 3rd, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Burkeview Memorial Services, 1340 Dominion Ave, Port Coquitlam, BC.
