Chris spent 47 years with Glacier Media and was instrumental in helping transition the newspaper industry from print into the digital era. He was deeply respected throughout his career and took great pride in the work he did and the people he worked alongside.
Chris loved his family fiercely and was happiest surrounded by the people closest to him. He had a one of a kind sense of humour that could make anyone laugh, whether through sarcasm, quick wit, perfectly timed comments, storytelling, or jokes that caught people completely off guard.
He loved photographing birds, especially eagles, ducks, hummingbirds, and chickadees, and adored the dogs he had over the years. He valued quality time, genuine connection, and the people he loved above everything else.
Chris is survived by his daughters, Lauren Johnson (Derek Whitt) and Dena Esary (Lorne Watson); granddaughter Jay Fortin; mother Christine Bennett; and Erin Tommasini and her son Ryan Matthews, who were deeply important parts of his life. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Esary.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with details to follow.
He leaves behind countless photographs, stories, laughs, and memories that will stay with the people who loved him forever. We take comfort in knowing he has found peace and is reunited with those he deeply missed.
