With great sadness we announce the passing of David Bruce Kirk, age 85. David passed away within hours of being diagnosed with COVID at Hawthorne Care Center.
David is deeply loved and survived by his devoted wife of 60 years Sheila, daughter Shawn (Brent Fengler), son David Kirk Jr., four grandchildren Brayden, Alexa, Jessica, Stephanie and great grandson Dallas.
David is predeceased by his parents George and Clara (Hardaker) Kirk, and older siblings Ken Kirk and June (Kirk) Arnison.
Born April 4, 1937 in Vancouver, B.C. David grew up in Vancouver and met many valued life long friends. David met Sheila in 1961, married in 1962 and moved to Coquitlam to raise their family.
In 1961, David graduated from UBC in Civil Engineering, and worked as a Professional Engineer. He was a founding member of the Master Municipal Construction Document Association, in 2009 was awarded the Fellow of Engineers Canada for his noteworthy service and contribution to the engineering profession, and in 2014 was granted Life Membership of the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.
For 40 years, David was a committed member of the Rotary Club of New Westminster where he served as President from 1990-1991 and District 5040 Governor from 2000-2001. David served with integrity and pride, and fostered fellowship through local and international travel, where he and Sheila made many lifelong friends. David’s dedication to Rotary emulated their principle of Service Above Self.
David’s passions included traveling, gardening, photography, and time with his family both in Canada and Australia. He will be fondly remembered for his dry sense of humour and as a kind, loving, supportive, and respected gentleman.
A Celebration of Life will be held January 8th, 2023 at 2pm at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre, north Mabbett Hall, 2150 Wilson Ave, Port Coquitlam B.C. Underground parking is available with access off Mary Hill Road.
