June 28, 1943 – March 3, 2026
Dawne Maurine Lofkrantz (nee Stillman) was born in Ottawa Ontario on June 28, 1943 as the long welcomed and cherished only child of Willard and Corrina Stillman. Due to Willard’s military career and the family’s early retirement adventures, as a child, Dawne schooled in Ottawa, Cobden Ontario, Calgary, London UK, and Mexico City before completing high school in Calgary where her parents had permanently settled.
After high school, Dawne earned her RN at Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary before completing her BSc in Nursing at the University of Alberta where she met her husband of 57 years, Eric. Dawne practiced as a public health nurse in Vegreville Alberta and Ladysmith BC before ultimately taking a position with the Simon Fraser Health Unit. Dawne was a long time Coquitlam resident from 1970 until her death.
Dawne was a fearless advocate for her two daughters and for anyone she believed was being unfairly treated. As a stay-at-home Mom she volunteered with her daughters’ schools and extracurricular activities as well as being involved with the University Women’s Club, being a volunteer driver with Meals on Wheels and BC Cancer, among other volunteer activities. In the immediate years prior to becoming ill in 2017 she combined her love of gardening, healthy eating and helping others by spearheading the Share food bank community garden plot in Port Moody. She could always be counted on by her family and friends for her generosity with her time, resources, and counsel especially in times of trouble and crisis.
Dawne was an adventurer who loved travel and outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, canoeing, skiing, and snorkeling as well as her favourite sport, curling, where she was a long time member of the Coquitlam Curling Club.
Dawne was a fighter. As she was diagnosed with various cancer tumours and heart issues and suffered cognitive decline, she continuously outlasted her doctors’ prognoses.
Dawne will be incredibly and dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Eric, her daughters, Erika and Jennifer, and her grandson Enrique.
Many thanks to all her friends who stood by her while she was going through this last stage of her life.
