To the Hutchins family - such wonderful memories of you all -- trips to Vanc. Island, babysitting, wedding shower, wonderful support to me & my family when we needed you all. Working for Dr Hutchins at Gain Medical -- he was the most delightful man to work with. Sad to know he is gone from this earthly plane, but he will live forever in our memories. I will see you all on the 13th.

I am so sorry to hear of dear Dr. Hutchins passing. He was such a kind man and a very dedicated doctor, having delivered our three girls in the 60's and when 'house calls' were so appreciated. Not sure if you remember or not Laddie, but you and Don actually came for dinner when we lived on Harbour Drive in Coquitlam. I remember your easy laughter and how much you and Don delighted in life.I remember how much Doug would love to see Don's Austin Healey parked outside the clinic in Coquitlam. They both shared a love of cars... I lost my dear Doug 6 years ago so I know how difficult this time is for you. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you find comfort in your beloved family. Laddie and family, Dr. Don was such a sweet guy and as a child, I remember being safe under his care. So sorry for your loss.

My sincere condolences to the Hutchins Clan on the passing of Don.
His spirit will live on in the fond memories of his life and how he touched us all.
For those of us who have accumulated a significant experience base of people relationships, usually there is but a handful of those people who stand out by the example of how they lived their life and treated others.
In my life, Don Hutchins was one of those people. He loved life and was passionate about his family, his friendships, his patients and his personal interests, including architecture and cars.
Three items stand out in my memories:
1) A personal visit with Laddie to out home in Surrey (I believe it was Feb-Mar 1969), during which Don did a quick, but thorough medical check that was needed by the University of Alberta where I was going to spend the summer at a research institute. While doing the standard feeling various areas for unusual items, while feeling my jaw and neck area he said, :Hmmm ... there is a lump there that should be there. It was Thursday, and Saturday I was under the knife of a surgeon colleague of Don's. It turned out to be a benign tumor. Dr. Don knew his stuff and treated his patients with compassion and competence.
2) As a father, I was able to share, with my wife, Muriel, the birth of our daughter, Cathy on May 28, 1971,at the Royal Columbian hospital, Dr. Don was the first person to hold Cathy, and I have been forever grateful to be able to be a part of the event. My participation was welcomed and encouraged by Don.
3. Last, but not least, was the opportunity to visit and experience Don, Laddie and their wonderful family in their beautiful home in Coquitlam. While time and events have kept us apart in recent years, I have been able to stay connected through the internet,
Don loved people and his focus on helping and uplifting others was an integral part of the way he lived. He will live on in our hearts through the amazing memories we have. His passing leaves a big void in the lives of Laddie, Christie, Kathy, Cam, Jeff and their families.May the passing of time lessen the void and refocus on the wonderful memories and life lessons we all have because of our relationship with Dr. Don.
