He was born in Ringkobing Denmark on June 9, 1940 to proud parents Johannes and Kirstine Lauridsen. Dad grew up in the nearby town of No with his 8 brothers and sisters. At the age of 21, he and his two brothers Arne and Kaj decided to travel to Canada. While Kaj eventually returned to Denmark, Dad and Arne decided to stay.
Dad eventually met and married Else on August 7th, 1965. He also became a Canadian Citizen on September 24th, 1976. He lived in Port Coquitlam for 60+ years raising their 3 children. Dad spent the majority of his working career, 33 years, driving for Greyhound Canada. He is lovingly remembered by his sons, Brian Lauridsen (Marina), Torben Lauridsen (Kim), and his daughter, Connie Morris (Scott). Dad was a proud Grandpa to Kylie and Cassidy Lauridsen and Taylor and Riley Morris. After the passing of Mom on May 7th, 2016, Dad continued to do what they both had always done. Staying active.
Dad always enjoyed a good get together with family and friends. The more people the better was something both he and mom enjoyed. He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood for 23 years. Dad loved to travel whether it was home to Denmark to visit family or to Mexico once or twice over the winter to get some sun and warm weather. From the time we were young kids right up until this summer he enjoyed his time at Pitt Lake. Whether a day trip or going for a couple days, I don’t think he ever turned any one of us down on an offer to go to the lake. Over the last 5 years his annual fishing trips to the Westcoast of Vancouver Island with his brother in law Jack and his son/son’s were always a highlight. As much as they enjoyed the catch, for those that knew him well, the back and forth banter on the dock at the end of the day was as much fun as the fishing. He also enjoyed his sports on TV, mostly watching the Canucks.
While he did enjoy sports on TV, Dad spent a large part of his time getting out to watch his 4 grand daughters as they participated in their various activities. Whether it was hockey, soccer, fastball, volleyball or horse show jumping, he always found the time to be there and cheer them all on. There might have been a few times where he may have given a little advice too.
He will be missed!
In lieu of flowers a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation in dad’s name would be greatly appreciated.
