Caroline Marie (Marsolino) Mauro, 96, went to be with her Lord on Monday, July 9, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Caroline was predeceased by her beloved husband of 72 years, Albert Mauro; cherished son, Albert, Jr.; grandson Albert Louis Mauro; parents, Mary and Louis Marsolino; sister, Elsie Granata; brothers, John, Anthony, Albert and Louis Marsolino. She is survived by her devoted sons and “daughters”, James and Vickie Mauro, Endwell; Lewis and Mary Ellen Mauro;, Binghamton; loving grandchildren, Michelle (Patrick) Barthel, Kristen Mauro, Lisa (Rich) Schappert, Elena (Dan) Longo, and Joseph Mauro; six “greats” Caroline and Catherine Barthel, Ryan and Ella Schappert, Danny and Nicholas Longo, who all adored their “Grande”; sisters, Edith Cosanella and Genevieve Koval; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lt. Col. (Ret.) George Bennett, Frank and Cora Mauro, Dee Perchinsky and Angie Mauro; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, especially, Cliff Sailor. Caroline was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. She retired from General Electric after which she owned and operated Carolyn’s Beauty Lounge for over fifteen years. She was a proud member of the Women’s Abruzzese Club and the Golden Age Club and was extremely proud of her Italian heritage. It is hard to capture the essence of Caroline in words. She was a vibrant and classy woman whose zest for life and youthful spirit sparkled. Her generous one-of-a-kind personality made her a friend to all she encountered. She was hard-working, fiercely loyal and dedicated herself 100% to everyone and everything that was a part of her life. Caroline was an outgoing, social and adventurous lady who never missed a good sale at the Mall, or a trip to New York City. She loved traveling to Florida, dancing on Saturday mornings in her kitchen with Al, lunching with friends, Sunday breakfast with her family and weekly dinners at her home. Caroline was the most selfless and caring woman we will ever know, and the true matriarch of our family. While the depth of her loss is immeasurable, the strength of her undying spirit will dance on in the hearts and lives of all who were fortunate enough to be touched by our “Sweet Caroline”. The family would like to thank the staff at Wilson Hospital’s South Tower 5 and Cardiac Care Unit for the compassionate care provided to Caroline in her final days. We are especially grateful to Dr. James Jewell, who was not only her physician, but a true friend and confidante to Caroline.
