Cecile F. Smith, 101, left this earthly place on Friday, August 20, 2021 to be with her savior Jesus Christ. She was born to Loren and Mabel Finch on September 15, 1919. After College she married Stuart Smith. In the final years of their almost fifty years together she was his dedicated care giver. Cecile was also predeceased by her sister Dorothy and her brother Russell, Bernice is her one surviving sister. She leaves behind her daughters Sandy (Mike deceased) Harris, Carole & Jim Bartola, and her son Dick (Pat) Smith along with multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren. Cecile is pleasantly remembered by numerous students she taught across more than thirty years. She was an avid gardener, who loved sharing her crops with anyone and everyone. Her hands were busy with crafts and needlework of many kinds. Many hands were warmed by mittens she crocheted. Cecile had a winning way with children and took joy in being a grandma. Her motto was “be cheerful”. Thank you to the people at Elderwood Village who unselfishly gave of themselves for Cecile’s care. She enjoyed the fun of light humor shared with them. When Cecile needed more assistance Geri Nolan and her girls went above and beyond the call of duty and became near and dear to her. Mom’s final days were at Mercy house, a beautiful place provided by the generosity of caring people. A Funeral Service will be offered on Saturday, August 28th at 1pm at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home located at 737 Chenango St. Port Dickinson, NY. 13901. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
