Della Charity (Davis) Finney, went to be with her Savior on Monday, December 11, 2017. Daughter of Floyd and Esther Davis, she was reunited with her husband of 44 years, Alan L. Finney. Della is survived by her children and their spouses; Carrie and Joseph Shore, David and Amanda Finney, Elaine and Matthew Schneider, and Zachary Finney. Della was grandmother to five amazing individuals; Joshua, Norah, Emma, Warren, and Madelyn. She was “mom” and “grandma” to so many people in her life including Emily and Harlynn Burgoon, who provided so much support in her home, and Della’s former foster children; Shannon, Richard, Nicholas, and Nina. She gave so much love and was loved in return. A 1962 Union-Endicott graduate, Della dedicated her life to making a difference in her community. She attended Brooklyn Methodist Hospital School of Nursing immediately after high school. Della became a registered nurse in 1965. She used her training and genuine concern for others to generate the most positive impact on those around her. Della was always drawn to pediatric nursing, which she practiced in Brooklyn and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia before returning to the Binghamton area and working at Binghamton City Hospital (now UHS Binghamton General Hospital). Then, she turned her time and attention to her own children and foster children from The Children’s Home. Della was always active in church. She was the consummate pastor’s wife. She was the organist for their first charge. She was often the Sunday school director. She volunteered at innumerable church functions, dinners, and craft sales. She sat with ill and dying parishioners. She served as labor coach for other church members. There is nothing Della wouldn’t do, if able, in order to help her church family. Della also served on the boards of the Children’s Home and CASA. Her dedication, faith, skill, and compassion were evident in everything she did. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 1:30 PM at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home 737 Chenango St. Port Dickinson, NY 13901, burial will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday in the No. Jackson Cemetery in No. Jackson, PA.
