Denton E. "Denny" Sutphen, aged 82, passed away on December 17, 2025 after a long illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Florence Sutphen. Denton is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Glena; his daughter, Ardella Sutphen (Chad Mitchell); his sister, Debra (John) Macksamie; and brother-in-law, David Carpenter. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Denton was a great chess player and had a deep appreciation for comedies, particularly enjoying classics like Abbott and Costello and the Three Stooges. He was a talented artist, expressing his creativity through his paintings, doodles, and drawings. Denton had a love for cats and a penchant for collecting many things.
Denton was a member of the First Baptist Church in both Johnson City, NY and Crescent City, FL, where he and Glena enjoyed spending winters for several years. He also volunteered as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army during the holidays.
A visitation will be held on December 29, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St, Port Dickinson, New York, 13901, where a memorial service will immediately follow at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Denton with a donation to the Salvation Army Binghamton Corps.
