George “Jay” Felton, III, 89, passed over to join our Lord and Savior on February 8, 2025. Jay was born in Byromville, GA on February 2, 1936. In 1958 during the Great Migration, George began building his life & legacy in Binghamton, NY. George worked as an Auto Body Man for more than than 60 years, and was considered by many to be THE BEST. He retired from Car Star in 2012. Among many interests George was a “car” man, but he also loved fishing, music and in his younger years performing & playing guitar. Later he enjoyed dedicating time to Mt. Sinai Church of God in Christ. Always a caretaker at heart, he enjoyed baking “sweet things” & cooking, notably garnering quasi fame for his fried chicken. Jaws would drop when Dad would show up to a family party with his fried chicken disguised in a KFC bucket. With a sly grin and twinkle in his eyes, he thoroughly relished the utter astonishment shown on all our faces. He stood as a stabilizing and tranquil presence to his loved ones, especially his children. George never asked for anything, though would jump at the ready to help anyone in need. Talking with George was easy and comforting, his non-judgemental demeanor made him the best listener and confidant. Our Dad thoroughly enjoyed watching the “tom fooleries” of his kids, especially while playing pool. He would belly laugh with side eye sly comments, while bearing witness to and engaging in the utter hilarity of our sh** talking, pool playing antics. He was a mellow and mild mannered father and friend, with great CLASS & STYLE. Our father will be missed immensely by his people and will be remembered always as the kindest and Best Dad ever!
George is predeceased by his 1st wife & mother of 5 of his children, Lynda Christian Felton, his long-time partner Sue Chapman and his 2nd wife Dorthy Felton (Washington), who he lovingly & selflessly cared for throughout her illness. He is also predeceased by his parents, George Felton Jr, Mary “Lizzie” (Lester) and youngest brother Kennie C Felton. George is survived by his children, Mary Gallon (Bernard), Trina Drayton (Daryl), George Felton IV (Kim Vargason), Deric J Felton (Elizabeth Concepcion), Melissa Burish (Michael), Todd C Felton (Amy), and Jenica Easterling (James Jarvis ). He is survived by his siblings Hazel Ladd, Bessie (Moise) Pomaney, Betty Williams (Leroy), Earlene Hughes (Charles), King Felton (Mary), Arthur Felton (Sandra). As well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and former daughter-in laws, Colleen Gunter & Christine Allen Felton. In recent months George was blessed with endless love & care especially from his children, brother Arthur Felton & his granddaughter Paetyn Burish. The family would especially like to thank the kind-hearted neighbors of Spurr Ave, Binghamton who lovingly & constantly watched out for our Dad. We will forever be grateful for their care, kindness & support.
We kindly & affectionately thank all the community members who helped in the frantic search for our dear father when he was most vulnerable & missing.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 1pm.
