He is survived by his beautiful and loving wife of 65 years, Virginia M. Negus (Moore), his sons Andrew Negus of Maryland, NY, Paul Negus of Milpitas, CA, Daniel Negus of Los Altos, CA and their daughter Allison Negus, most recently of Binghamton, NY.
He is predeceased by their much loved son Thomas E. Negus of Blue Springs, MO, and his parents, George A. Negus Sr. and Rose C. Negus (Assad), both of Newark, NY.
George was a dedicated school psychologist for the city of Binghamton schools (K-12) from 1961-1989. He was a well respected counselor, mentor, peacemaker, and champion of students with special needs or who were developmentally challenged. He worked tirelessly with teachers, parents, social workers, and students as a powerful and devoted advocate on behalf of children who often did not have a voice, to work toward solutions with their best interest at heart.
George was passionate about his wife, family, friends, students, and also about the truth, fairness and kindness. He enjoyed family gatherings, music, travel, nature, wildlife, fishing, camping and laboriously chasing a little white ball around beautiful green courses.
He is also survived by his 5 brothers and sisters, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and over 20 nieces and nephews.
We his family thank the kind and dedicated health care workers of UHS Twin Tier Health Care, some at Bridgewater Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, and some at Lourdes Hospital, for their respectful, kind and effective care.
Services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (nationalmssociety.org), the Lustgarten Foundation for pancreatic cancer research (lustgarten.org), or a charity of your choosing.
