Laura passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on February 21, 1936, she was the beloved daughter of the late Miriam and Harold J. White.
Laura grew up in Kattelville, New York, and graduated from Chenango Forks High School. She completed her nursing education at the State Hospital School of Nursing in 1957, beginning a life devoted to the care of others. As a Registered Nurse at River Mede and Bridgewater Nursing Homes for over 20 years, Laura was a tireless caregiver known for her gentle compassion and dedication.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Kenneth “Ken” Spenard, and her daughter Ann Marie. Laura is survived by her daughters Michelle Kennedy and Sue (Tom) Moss, and her treasured grandchildren: Phillip, Branden, Mackenzie, Erin, Jaren, and great grandchildren Issabella and Lucas.
A woman of quiet strength and deep Catholic faith, Laura was a devoted member of St. Rita’s Church, where she served as church organist for over 30 years. Her love of music—especially playing the organ and piano—along with her enjoyment of sewing and reading, were lifelong passions that brought comfort and joy to both her and those around her.
Soft-spoken, gracious, and kind, Laura will be remembered for the warmth she gave so freely and the steady, loving presence she was to her family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 7th, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Nurses Tribute Service prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1049 Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY 13901. Burial will follow at Port Crane Cemetery, Park Street, Port Crane, NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad 8 S. Avenue B, Endwell, NY 13760.
