A decorated baseball, basketball and football player, Lonnie graduated from Binghamton High School and continued on his passion for sports as an avid fan of the New York Giants, New York Mets and Syracuse Basketball team, playing in recreational sports leagues, and by volunteering at the Binghamton Boy’s and Girl’s Club.
Lonnie held many titles over the years at the Binghamton Psychiatric Center while simultaneously running his cleaning business, Clean Pro Janitorial. But the title he was most proud of was father and grandfather. He found the most joy in life from attending his children and grandchildren’s sports competitions, sharing his love of Motown, and playing Hide-and-Seek with his youngest grandchildren. He will be remembered for his kindness, warmth and compassion.
Lonnie is survived by his siblings Norma Hughes, Eddie Hawkins, Louise and Harvey Oglesby, Dale and Lorraine Hawkins, Reggie Hawkins; children Jerame and Kim Hawkins, Jonah Hawkins, Michelle and Kenneth Hawkins, Marcus and Erica Hawkins, Brittany Hawkins, and Derek and Margaux Greenhawk and 9 grandchildren.
