Arthur Prevete, of Port Jefferson Station, NY, passed away on September 29, 2025, just days before his 84th birthday. Born on October 4, 1941, in Brooklyn, NY, Arthur lived a full and meaningful life, defined by dedication to his family, his trade, and his passions.
Arthur was the beloved husband of 60 years to the late Kathleen, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and devotion. Together, they raised a close-knit and loving family. He was the proud and loving father of Arthur, Joseph, Phillip, Christopher, and the late Michel Prevete. He was affectionately known as “Pop” to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
He is also survived by his cherished siblings, Phillip and Lucille, who held a special place in his heart.
Arthur dedicated over three decades of his life to his work as an Iron Worker with Local 580, from which he retired with great pride. His strong work ethic and commitment to his craft earned him deep respect among his peers and lifelong friendships.
Outside of work, Arthur was a man of many passions. A devoted family man, he treasured every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—especially cheering them on at baseball games. A lifelong fisherman, he spent over 40 years on the water aboard his boat, The Chappy, with his beloved brother-in-law, Mike Landi. His greatest catch was highlighted in The New York Times article titled “A 40 Year Love Affair with the Bass,” when Arthur caught one of the largest striped bass at 63 pounds out of Montauk Harbor. He was a proud member of the Eastern Flyrodders of Long Island, NY, where he shared his love for fly fishing with fellow enthusiasts. He also crafted his own fishing lures, combining artistry with his love for the sport.
Arthur will be remembered for his warm heart, strong will, unwavering love for his family, and his passion for life. His legacy lives on in the memories he created, the values he instilled, and the family he loved so deeply.
