Brendan O’Grady, 76, of Port Jefferson passed away after a lengthy illness on April 19, 2020. Brendan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who enriched the lives of all he met.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joann, and his five children, Martin, Beth (Mark), Brendan (Virginia), Joseph (Emma) and Kevin, along with his five grandchildren, Madeline, Anna, Samuel, Juniper and Willow. In addition, he is survived by brothers Thomas (Denise) and Kevin (Teresa), and sister Maureen (Jean-Paul) as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Martin.
He proudly served as a U.S. Marine and had a long career as a CPA with the Southern Peru Copper Company. In retirement, he continued to pursue his hobbies of golfing, travel, theater, reading and spending quality time with his family.
A true gentleman, he will be missed for his quick smile, storytelling and the joy he brought to all.
Slainte and rest in peace.
My family and I greatly appreciate the massive outpouring of sympathy and would like to take this time to sincerely thank those who have sent cards, foods, flowers, messages, and texts. Your words have meant a lot to us as we mourn Brendan’s passing.
The timing of his loss does not make any of this easier. As we all know, we are extremely limited in what we can do. However, there will be a funeral that you can attend if you wish. There are many restrictions, but at least it is something. The details are:
St. Charles Cemetery
2015 Wellwood Avenue
East Farmingdale, Suffolk County, New York, 11735
Wednesday, May 6, 2020. 8:45am
The ceremony will be tribucast for those who would like to attend virtually. We will post the link prior to May 6th.
Funeral procession to begin at O.B. Davis, Port Jefferson 4839 Nesconset Highway Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776. Please arrive no later than 7:45am.
Burial at 8:45am at St. Charles Cemetery. There will be a ceremony at the burial site for up to ten people, immediate family only at that time. All other mourners must remain in their cars. At the conclusion of the initial ceremony, and once the immediate family returns to their cars, mourners from the procession may approach the gravesite, respecting the current social distance guidelines. They can pay their last respects and proceed back to their vehicles to allow others to step up.
This is exceedingly difficult for us all, as we know that Brendan deserves to have a proper Irish wake and funeral. When all these restrictions are lifted, we will have a celebration in his honor. We will let you all know as soon as we have a date. Until then, raise a pint for Brendan, share a story, and may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
