Catherine Grossmann, 90, of Coram, NY, and formerly of Oakdale, NY, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025. Born on May 24, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY, Catherine lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure.
Beloved wife of 71 years to Louis Grossmann, Catherine cherished their long and happy marriage. Together, they built a loving family and shared countless memories, including travels to Hawaii and Italy. Their favorite destinations, however, were closer to home—Atlantic City and Jake's 58—where their love for gambling brought them joy and excitement.
Catherine was the devoted mother of Louis J., Anne Marie Skurnick (Mark), and Michael (Laura). She was the proud grandmother of Stephen Skurnick, Andrew Skurnick, Alexa Cartwright, Kimberley Grossmann, Angela, Anthony and Kimberly and the adored great-grandmother of Delilah, Jamison, Finley, Hudson, Mackenzie, Banks, Parker, Cooper, Zach and Taylor. Her family was her greatest joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Catherine dedicated much of her career to helping others, retiring as a supervisor from Sagamore Children's Psychiatric Center. In her retirement, she volunteered at Mather Hospital and continued to give back to her community. A woman of deep faith, Catherine sang in the choir at St. John Nepomucene Roman Catholic Church in Bohemia when she lived in Oakdale and found great fulfillment in her spiritual contributions.
Known for her sassy attitude and a quick wit that could deliver the best "dirty jokes," Catherine brought humor and light wherever she went. She and Louis enjoyed card games and dinners with close friends, always embracing the simple pleasures in life.
Catherine will be remembered for her lively spirit, generous heart, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories.
