Born to Conrad F. “Curly” and Josephine (Cogliano) Kundle on June 19, 1943, in Floral Park, New York, Kert was the first of 5 children. He is predeceased by his sister, Joan (Kundle) Graziano, and brother, Bruce Kundle. His youngest siblings – John Kundle and his wife Rose and Daria (Kundle) Samek – mourn his passing.
Beloved husband of Mary Flanagan-Kundle, Kert’s quiet strength and enduring love was evident in how he cared for his wife, his daughter, Dawn (Kundle) Letus, and her husband Kenneth Letus. He was also a caring stepfather to Glenn Flanagan and his wife Phuong, John Flanagan and his wife Allison, and Christopher Flanagan and his wife Ashlee, embracing his extended family with warmth and pride. He was predeceased by his son, Conrad W. Kundle.
He was a cherished grandfather to Vincent Nutt and his wife Elizabeth, Robert Nutt and his wife Annie, Sean Letus, Eric Letus and his wife Courtney, as well as Connor, Cole, Rory, Brooks, and Quinn Flanagan. He was predeceased by his grandson, Christopher Nutt. Kert’s joy continued through the generations as an adored great-grandfather to Benjamin, Charlotte, Lorelai, and Aria Nutt, and Parker Letus. He is loved by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kert was an amazing dancer, dancing was in his soul. He didn’t need to be in a formal setting to demonstrate his dancing skills. He would dance in supermarket checkout lines to get a smile from the cashier. He would dance at family celebrations, at local dance clubs. He would dance on roller skates and skis in the 70s and 80s, and he “Hustled” his way into lifelong friendships at the Hounds and Foxes way back when. Like an expression of his positivity, Kert danced his way into his wife’s heart in 2003 and married her in 2014.
An Italian and fresh food enthusiast, Kert’s internal clock was based on 3-plus meals per day. He would try any kind of food offered to him, from raw foods to outrageous concoctions. He instilled that love of adventure in his children as well. A traveler, a foody, a dancer and a skier, he combined all of his loves on his annual trips to Italy. When he got older, he would dance with his wife in Ortisei, Italy while watching the snow fall, enjoy a delicious pastry or gelato at a Pasticceria in Venice, and ski the Dolomites in Cortina. Then, he would come home to the cigar shop, where he and the guys would sit, smoke their stogies and solve the problems of the world.
Kert will be remembered for his positivity, his genuine love to enjoy life to the fullest, his steady presence, his deep love for his family, and the many lives he touched with his kindness and generosity.
