It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David C. Pappalardo, a man of immense character, boundless love, and a personality that filled every room he entered. David was a force of nature—determined and assertive when he needed to be, yet profoundly kind, caring, and protective of those he loved.
A Life of Dedication and Service
Born to Charles and Annette Pappalardo, David was born in Pearl River, NY and grew up in Bayside, NY! He was a man of great intellect and ambition, working his way through Baruch College, proudly serving his country in the United States Army,
and dedicating himself to a distinguished career in hospital administration.
A respected leader in his field, David served as a VP of Human Resources and Labor Relations, and ultimately as President of Staffco. His professional legacy is marked by his time at Stony Brook University, Nassau County Medical Center, Downstate Medical Center and Long Island College Hospital, where he was both deeply respected by his peers and well-liked by those he led.
Family First, Always
To David, family was the center of the universe. He lived by the mantra that "blood is thicker than water." He was a devoted son and a protective brother to his sisters, Carole, Nancy, and Jayne. David was the proud father of twin sons, Michael and Timothy, from his marriage to his first wife, Mary. He was their biggest supporter, never missing a moment—from years of attending Tim’s theatre productions to cheering at Michael’s football games at Marist College. His greatest joy was watching his boys grow into the men they are today—one an accomplished teacher and coach and the other a successful business owner. He was also a proud and involved uncle to David, Sean, Jenee, Charissa, James, Daniel, Sara, and Matthew.
Twenty-nine years ago, David’s life changed forever when he met Kathy, the woman who would become his devoted wife and life partner. Their bond was the cornerstone of his life, extending to the entire Werther family, whom he embraced and loved as his own. Together, David and Kathy built a life filled with shared adventures, whether traveling to new destinations or hosting friends and family at their homes in Port Jefferson and Naples.
Of all their traditions, the holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas, held a special place in their hearts. It was a grand, spirited production that grew larger each year. Though the guest list increased and the preparations became more intensive, David and Kathy's philosophy remained simple: there was always room for one more.
A Present and Doting Grandfather
As a Grandfather to Michael and Jane’s children, Anna and Bruce, David was always present. He took immense pride in their milestones, whether he was on the sidelines for Bruce’s football games or traveling to watch Anna play travel lacrosse. He cherished family trips to Maine, Disney World, and St. Lucia, creating memories that will last lifetimes. One of his greatest simple joys was having his grandchildren over for sleepovers, and his wish was to always be there to see them grow and thrive.
A Master Communicator and Protector
David was a "hugger and a kisser" who was never afraid to show affection. He would tell you he loved you loudly and proudly, often in public, leaving no doubt where you stood with him.
He was a gifted communicator who could talk for hours, but he was an even better listener. He was genuinely interested in the lives of others—always asking questions and wanting to hear about whatever you were working on. He had the rare gift of making everyone feel special and accepted people exactly as they were. Above all, David took care of people and always strove to do the right thing for everyone.
A Caring Man
David did not do anything halfway. Whether it was his career, his community, or his personal life, he was "all in." He lived life at full volume, loved without reservation, and would do anything to help anyone. He has left a lasting mark on the hearts of everyone who knew him.
