Elizabeth C. McCarthy

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Elizabeth C. McCarthy, who left us on December 21, 2025 at the age of 94. She was the beloved wife of Frederick J. McCarthy. Elizabeth, better known as Betty, was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She was born on April 25, 1931 in Ludlow MA to Theodore and Etiennette (nee Lemieux) Stebbins. She graduated from Ludlow High School, where she and her sisters became famous for yodeling over the radio. She married Fred on August 29, 1953. Betty lived a life filled with laughter, kindness and an unshakable devotion to family. She had a way of making people feel special and loved. Betty enjoyed knitting intricate sweaters and blankets, playing the guitar, singing, and gardening. She will always be remembered for her kindness and lending a helping hand in redecorating and painting projects. No project was too small or too big. She was known in her community for teaching knitting and decorating for seasonal parties.

Elizabeth C. McCarthy is survived by her two sons Kevin Michael and Edward James and her three daughters Eileen Noel and her husband David, Margaret McDermot and her husband Sean and Carol Liberty and her husband Daniel. There are also twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The lovely Theresa Sildleau is her only surviving sibling. Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband Frederick J. McCarthy as well as her siblings, Lena Chenvert, Rita Rolland, Irene Spafford, Alice Rolland, Julliett Stebbins, Christine Chenier, Theodore Stebbins and Clair Mayou

A visitation will be held at O. B. Davis Funeral Homes, located at 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776, on January 8, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The funeral mass will take place at St Gerard Majella R.C. Church, 300 Terryville Rd, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776, on January 9, 2026, at 10:00 am.

The committal service will be held at Calverton National Cemetery in Wading River, NY 11792, on January 9, 2026, at 11:45 am.
