At the area where they conducted Gasper's military funeral service, some people got up and said some nice words about Gasper. I would have liked to but I was very emotional especially with taps playing and was not able to speak at that time.

He was surrounded by a lot of friends that day and I am sure he would have been happy to see some of his old cronies talking about him and the old neighborhood.

We grew up in a project located in the Bronx. I was in apt 4B, J.Manning 9F, Sal Campisi 13 B, Bob Arvedlund 13 D, CKravitz 3 H. As you can see, we were all living in one huge bldg and friends were all over the place.

I went to high school at Power Memorial and made the treck into the city along w/Bob Arvedlund & Eddy Colletti. Gasper went to LaSalle Academy which closed at the end of his Freshman year. So he joined us doing the treck to Power. Bob Arvedlund joined the Air Force after graduation and I followed shortly thereafter along w/Eddy Colletti.I thought for sure that Gasper would follow in our tracks but he hung in there by going to college and graduating.....unlike us!!

After my 4 years were up I came home to Highbridge where Gasper and I hung out. This lasted for a very short while because Gasper got drafted in the Army. Gasper's father and I took Gasper down to Whitehall Street where they processed all the military (future) personnel.

I heard from Gasper a few months later and he informed me that he had met Cindy, an attractive WAC in the Army and they both were serious about one another. Needless to say, they got married while they both were stationed in Georgia. Shortly thereafter, Gasper and Cindy both came to NY where Gasper introduced Cindy to all of our friends.

Gasper wound up doing a tour in Viet Nam for a year or two. Fortunately, he survived the tour and came back in one piece.

Over the years he and Cindy raised a family and both worked in various Federal/State jobs..

Throughout the years, Gasper and I have been in touch with one another. He had a few parties with the 'old' crowd which my wife Anita and I were invited to and had a great time.

Looking back on our friendship, I can't ever recall getting into an argument w/Gasper. He was always easy going which probably helped him in his occupation in helping vets.

Gasper, through the Vet Center you mapped out the road that led me back to sobriety and sanity. How can I ever thank you for giving me back to my family...

I first met Gasper back in 1994 thru Richard Kitson, at the vet center we worked together for more then 3 years with Gasper trying to help with my PTSD. With his help I managed to get myself together and handle my problems. I thanked him many times and if I didn't get his help I wouldn't, be able to do things for myself.   David higgins

My sincerest condolences to the family.  Having known him for over twenty five years as part of the Vet Center program from the early days, his strong sense of committment and advocacy will always be remember.  He challanged us all to think about the importance of the work we do by asking difficult, thought provoking questions.  The contibutions made by Gasper will live on in us all.

My Peach Fuz you will be greatly missed, and when we first met you were the quiest person I had ever met but as time went on you surprised everyone with you wit and caring ways. I am so very happy we had all the time we had with you even to the last day, it gave us great comfort to know that we could brighten your days, and you will always be my Peach Fuz and yes I will miss that very much, you will always be in our hearts.

Gasper was a friend and co-worker for over 20 years.  He helped so many veterans and gave unselfishly.  The world is a better place because of him and I am a better person for having known him.  His influence will live on.  My heart goes out to his family.

He was a tireless advocate for veterans and spent his career trying to improve their lot.  My condolences to his loving family.

Cindy - The wedding pictures take us back to a really good day during a really tough time...I only remember that he was so certain about wanting to marry you. I'm so glad you had lots of years together but so sad that he's gone...Ken

Our deepest sympathies to Cindy and Gasper's children and family.  Looking at his photos, the one thing that stands at the most are Gasper's eyes.  They say the eyes are the window of the soul.  Gasper's eyes reflected his love, tenderness, gentleness and compassion.  My wife, Marilyn,and I  met Gasper in 1982  at the Vet Center. Gasper cared and Gasper listened. After I had a serious accident, Gasper brought the entire support group to the hospital. Upon release from the hospital, under his direction, the vets built a ramp so I could get out of the house. I will never forget that.  Gasper helped countless vets and I am one of them.  He will always will be remembered with love and a smile.  May the memories of him bring comfort to all those who will deeply miss him.
