Gerard Charles MacGregor, of Coram, NY, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on March 28, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY—a place he held close to his heart—Gerard lived a life full of laughter, adventure, and deep devotion to those he loved.
He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Elizabeth MacGregor, with whom he shared a beautiful life of travel, joy, and unconditional love. Together, they traveled to many great places, including endless fun times at Paradise Beach Club. They also cherished their time exploring the breathtaking National Parks out west.
Gerard was a loving father to Barbara Cortelli (Joseph), Deborah O'Leary (John Fabijanic), Lawrence MacGregor (Allison), and Steven MacGregor (Jill). He was a devoted and proud "Poppy" to his grandchildren: Dylan O'Leary (Kailyn Giaccone), Devon O'Leary, Conor O'Leary (Katarina), Erin O'Leary, Matthew Cortelli, Patrick Cortelli, Brendan Cortelli, Andrew MacGregor, and Zachary MacGregor. His love extended to the next generation as well, as he was the cherished "Great Poppy" to Emma O'Leary.
He is predeceased by his son-in-law Richard O'Leary and his siblings, Dolores McKenna, Jean Luciano, Roy MacGregor, and Kenneth MacGregor.
Gerard's presence lit up every room. Known for his quick wit, masterful storytelling, and infectious sense of humor, he loved to make others laugh. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time aboard the Irish Mist, and was happiest surrounded by family, whether gathered for a holiday or a simple afternoon on the water. An eloquent speaker and lifelong friend, Gerard remained close to many throughout the years.
An active member of the Moose Club, Port Jefferson Lodge 1379, Gerard also had a passion for football. In his younger years, he played for and later coached the semi-professional Brooklyn Mariners, as well as youth football teams in Marine Park. Thus instilling in his players the same passion and dedication he brought to every part of his life. He also brought his sense of humor and pride of Brooklyn while tending bar at the Mariners Inn.
Above all else, Gerard’s greatest joy was his family. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those he held dear.
