Jean E. Schaefer, of Centereach, NY, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on March 5, 1931, in Queens, NY, Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.
Jean was the beloved wife of 56 years to the late Benjamin F. Schaefer. She was the loving mother of Thomas (Patricia), John (Valerie), Deborah Engel (late Cuno), Donna Webster (Michael), and Carolann Hislop (late Scott). Her love extended to her cherished grandchildren: Nicole, Konimba (Ruth), Jessica, Stephanie, Heather (Brian), Jaime (Cris), Melanie (Joe), Amanda, Amy, Rebecca, Michael, Justin, Alexa, Dylan, Kameron, and Brynn. She was also the adored great-grandmother of Kevin, Ousmane, Kaylee, Benjamin, Patrick, J.T., Abby, Wyatt, Ina, and Mason.
Jean had an incredible talent for crafting and quilting, creating beautiful handmade sewn items that her family will treasure forever. Her holiday decorations and personalized Christmas stockings brought joy to her loved ones and became a cherished tradition in her family. She was also the dedicated keeper of the family's history, meticulously preserving photo albums filled with memories and milestones for future generations.
Deeply devoted to her faith, Jean was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Centereach, where she also served as a Sunday School teacher. She found joy in her church community and was a proud member of Martha's Circle, a crafting group that met every Tuesday to create handmade items for church fairs. Her unwavering faith and generosity were evident in all aspects of her life.
Jean’s greatest joy was her family, who meant the world to her. She delighted in gathering with them for every holiday, celebrating life's special moments together. Her warmth, love, and selflessness created a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, February 3, 2025, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 140 Mark Tree Road, Centereach, NY 11720. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Blvd., Calverton, NY 11933.
Jean will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her love, generosity, and devotion to her family and faith.
