Joanna Rigas, of Mount Sinai, NY, passed away on January 20, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on August 20, 1934, Joanna is now reunited with her beloved husband, Andrew Rigas, who predeceased her in 2014.
Joanna was the cherished aunt of Suzanne Spiliotis and Steve Spiliotis and the adored great-aunt of Andraya, Danielle, and Demetri Spiliotis. Dear stepmother of Nick Rigas, Lee Rigas and Maria Wynnyckyj. Family was at the heart of Joanna’s life, and she treasured every moment spent with her loved ones.
For many years, Joanna and Andrew enjoyed traveling to Florida, where they would spend their winters together. Joanna was also deeply devoted to her faith and her church community. As a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption in Port Jefferson, Joanna was an active participant and a proud member of the church choir. Her devout spirit and warm presence will be missed by all who knew her.
Joanna found joy in celebrating the holidays and creating lasting memories with her family, always making those moments special for everyone around her.
Visitation for Joanna will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption, 430 Sheep Pasture Road, Port Jefferson, NY 11777. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with interment immediately afterward at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Liberty Avenue, Port Jefferson, NY 11777.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joanna’s memory to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption.
Joanna’s unwavering love, faith, and dedication to her family and community will forever be remembered. May her memory be eternal.
