

Joseph E. Verderber Sr., of Nissequogue, NY, passed away on August 14, 2024, just days shy of his 87th birthday. Born on August 20, 1937, in Queens, NY, Joseph led a life rich with love, adventure, and dedication.
He was the devoted husband of Judith E. Verderber, sharing a life filled with joy, travel, and mutual passion for the sea. Together, they embarked on many adventures, sailing on their Northern VS yacht, and spending cherished time at their condo in Fort Lauderdale. Joseph was a proud member of the Coral Ridge Yacht Club in Fort Lauderdale and the Huntington Yacht Club, where he served as Commodore, reflecting his lifelong passion for the sea.
Joseph was a loving father to Laura Kean and her husband Michael; John; Joseph E. Jr. and his wife Toni; Dawn Reisner and her husband Karl; Keith and his wife Lisa; and Michelle Verderber. His legacy continues through his 24 adoring grandchildren: Michael Jr., Matthew, Meaghan, Mitchell, Melissa, Cole, Joseph III, Brett, Jack, John Jr., Joseph, Gerard, Jordan, Nicole and her husband Darnell, Luke, Lia, Keith Jr., Jake, Lindsey, Austin, Cody, Conner, Braiden, and McKenna.
He was also a cherished brother to the late Rudy Verderber. Joseph's pride in his service as a Marine was a defining aspect of his character, embodying his commitment to discipline, honor, and service.
In addition to his maritime pursuits, Joseph had a profound love for his shih tzus and his fish ponds. He delighted in spending time with friends, but nothing was more precious to him than gathering with his family, especially for the Christmas holidays.
Joseph was also the owner and operator of Astro Allied Moving and Storage, a business he built with dedication and care. His work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit were a significant part of his legacy.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His life was a rich tapestry of love, service, and adventure. A visitation for Joseph will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776. Funeral Mass on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 10:15 AM at Sts. Philip & James R.C. Church, 1 Carow Place, St. James, NY 11780. Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, 2015 North Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
