Kathy was born in Jamaica, Queens. She was the eldest of 4 siblings. After High School she worked at Metropolitan Life, Sears and finally at the IRS for 30 years in the accounting department.
She met her husband Bob through his sister Chris. It was love at first sight. After dating for 3 years, they married and moved into their first apartment in Fresh Meadows. They then moved to Flushing where Debbie was born. Kathy & Bob then moved to Port Jefferson Station where they purchased their first home. Laura was born in Port Jefferson Station. Kathy worked part time at Sears when the girls were young. She then worked at the IRS for the next 30 years.
Kathy was a beautiful person who was well organized and a great cook. She loved to garden and entertain large groups of family and friends. She especially enjoyed planning large family parties. She travelled with Bob across the United States. They enjoyed two special trips to Alaska and Hawaii. At one point a family cross country trip was taken to Arizona with the girls.
As a mom Kathy was loving. She would take her daughters to Girl Scouts, school functions, the movies and to girl scouts. Kathy went on a scouting trip with Debbie and her troop to Pennsylvania where the slept in a railroad car hotel. The girls and mom also loved to go shopping. They shopped until they dropped!
As a grandmother, Kathy adored her grandson Julian. Her hobby was spoiling him. Julian called her Nana. She was present at school concerts, graduations, boy scout fundraisers and baseball games. Even towards the end when her health was beginning to fail, she attended his baseball tournament at Cooperstown along with her husband Bob and Julian’s other grandma Linda Belmonte. She really should have stayed home, but refused to miss seeing him play in the tournament.
About 10 years ago, her health began to decline as she began to lose her eyesight and was diagnosed with a chronic blood cancer called Multiple Myeloma. The effects of the cancer and treatments took a toll on her body. In the end Kathy was brought home with hospice care to spend her final days at home with her husband Bob. She was a fighter to the end & never gave up hope.
