Maireadh Boehme, of Selden, NY, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, at the age of 67, with her loving family by her side. Born in Jamaica, NY, she was the cherished daughter of the late Willard J. and Ellen E. Boehme.
She was a devoted sister to Phyllis Boehme, Deidre Boehme, Terri Peterman (Jim), and Willard “Billy” Boehme, and the fun-loving aunt to Eileen, Christine, Breanna, and Kevin. She also adored being “Great-Aunt Maireadh” to Kaleigh, Aria, Billy, Aubree, and Adrian. Her family was her heart, and she poured her love into them in a thousand little ways.
Growing up, Maireadh was the mischievous one — the sister who somehow always managed to get the others in trouble, usually with a grin on her face. She loved a good laugh, knew how to have a good time, and could turn any gathering into a party. Whether it was cracking jokes around the kitchen table, dragging her siblings along on adventures that rarely went as planned, or simply telling a story with that spark in her eye, Maireadh had a gift for bringing joy, laughter, and a little bit of joyful mischief wherever she went.
To her nieces and nephews, Maireadh was more than an aunt — she was the kind of grown-up who bent the rules and made childhood magical. She was the one who stretched bedtime into dawn with video games, turned car rides into adventures their parents never would have allowed, and always showed up with the kind of gifts that felt like treasure. She delighted in teaching them little “forbidden” things, like a funny curse word or a cheeky joke, knowing it would spark chaos and laughter at the dinner table. With her quick wit, mischievous laugh that could light up a room, and a boundless heart, Maireadh had a way of making every moment feel like an adventure — the kind of grown-up who made childhood unforgettable.
Her family and friends will forever remember her signature traditions: Slim Jims hidden in her pocketbook for the dogs, “helen Honda” and “Fiona Ford” (because every car needed a name), shortcuts behind the wheel that were rarely short, and late-night lessons in how to melt mozzarella in the microwave and eat it like soup. She was known for her sweet-and-sour chicken, her big laugh, her bigger heart, and her ability to make the ordinary unforgettable. And in true Maireadh fashion, she managed to turn even her dislikes into family lore — most memorably her dramatic disdain for the smell of turkey, which she insisted could clear a room faster than any joke.
Though she could yell when you deserved it, she would always come back a few minutes later in tears, apologizing because her love for you was greater than her temper. That was Maireadh — warm, forgiving, and endlessly caring.
She was proud of her Irish Catholic heritage and carried her faith with her through every chapter of her life. She cheered fiercely for her Mets, Rangers, and Giants, and loved animals with her whole heart — especially her faithful dogs, Vader and her late Mookie.
Maireadh worked hard and took pride in her job, earning the respect of her colleagues with her dedication, humor, and kindness.
A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 2–4 PM and 6–8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 10 AM at St. Gerard Majella Roman Catholic Church, 300 Terryville Road, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776. Committal service and interment of her ashes will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3442 Route 112, Coram, NY 11727.
Maireadh’s warmth, laughter, and love will be deeply missed — but the stories she gave us, and the joy she brought to everyone who knew her, will live on forever.
