I just looked up Mike as I used to be his assistant at Hidenwood Elementary, and I wondered if he was still working in Newport News. I am so sorry to hear about this loss. He was a wonderful person, and he loved his family very much. -Rev. 21:4.

Mike (Smokey),

A friend to all and an All-American personality.

Mike spent a year with our class, fifth grade at Clinton Avenue, room 206, and left all of us with a smile each day. Always there to help others and looking for nothing in return. 

I treasure my year with Mike and always will spread the legacy of Smokey to my friends and family.

My name is Tish Mitchell, and I worked with Mike at Woodside High School in Newport News, VA. He was so patient and worked so well with my students, who had more severe needs than the population he taught. He was a thoughtful and helpful colleague. Mike brought humor to every meeting and task. He was a joy to work with. I send my most heartfelt condolences to his family.  

Smokey was family to us and I considered him another brother. 
 I have so many fond memories with him. He had a great temperament and always a smile on his face. Such a pleasure to be around. I remember him coming to the glass shop with his 2 Golden Retrievers. He used to ride them around in the back of his pickup truck, he loved his dogs. He was a Great athlete, Loyal friend, Awesome father and an all around Wonderful human being. He always treated myself and others with much respect. I’m grateful to have known him. He will be dearly missed. Here's a sweet Halloween Memory with Mike, Sophia and other neighborhood kids in 2018. Mike always was a very involved parent...Sophie came 1st in his life. I think the hardest part of losing someone isn't having to say goodbye, but rather learning to live without them. RIP my brother until we meet again.

Mike and I enjoyed many trips to the gun range.  I came to find he was quite the avid marksman but even more a great friend and neighbor for the last 16 years. We already miss seeing him and yelling Hey "T" and Shirls in that very authentic NY tone. God bless Sophia and his Family left behind whom he cherished.

Same Halloween, enjoyed that holiday every year...always very involved in Sophia's costumes...such a fun loving guy! 

May you rest in peace my brother! My condolences to the Padalino family, specially to your dear Sophia. May the Lord provide her and the family with love, serenity, solace and peace!! We at Heritage HS Cane family will miss you dearly.

Mr. P was awesome to work with. He could make us laugh when we were down at school. I enjoyed working with him. He was a great mentor to all of us at Heritage. Mr. P was always willing to help us with every problem in the classroom. The thing that made him smile the most was talking about Sophia. He loved you beyond words.

My condolences to the Padalino Family. 
I had the pleasure of working with "Paddy" as I affectionately called him for many years in the school system; often working side by side every summer. He always made the classroom fun and lively with his humor and boisterous voice. We shared many laughs and you could always find the "mischief-maker" walking through the halls and speaking to the kids and staff. He always mentioned his love for his daughter, her accomplishments, and her development throughout the years. We will miss you Padalino!



Mr. Padalino was one of the best educators that I had to honor to know and work with! I first met him as a college student observing at Hidenwood and then years later he was a friendly familiar place when I moved to Heritage.  He always had a big smile on his face!  I remember how cool it was that he would go eat lunch and play games with his students in the cafeteria. Everyone loved Mr. Padalino! My deepest condolences go to Mr. Padalino's family and loved ones.

Sending lots of love to his family, friends, and colleagues, especially daughter Sophia. Praying for peace and comfort for you all in the days to come.

I worked with Michael when he recently taught in Virginia. He was well-liked and great to work with. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. Extending prayers and condolences to all of his family and lived ones.
