Patrick J. Hughes

Patrick J. Hughes, a beloved resident of Lake Grove, NY, passed away on January 22, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on April 11, 1932, in Tullamore, County Offaly, Ireland, Patrick lived a life rich in love, hard work, and devotion to family.

Patrick was the cherished husband of the late Mary Jane, with whom he shared an incredible journey. At just 21 years old, Patrick and Mary courageously left Ireland with only $8 in their pockets, building a new life and legacy as first-generation Americans. After Mary’s passing in 1988, Patrick devoted himself fully to raising their six sons, ensuring that family remained his top priority.

He was the proud and loving father of Camillus (late Roxanne), John J. (Susan), Patrick M., and the late Kevin G., Gregory F., and Liam G. His joy extended to his grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Kyle, Brian, Mary, and Evan, and his great-grandson, Winter, all of whom he adored deeply.

Patrick’s love of sports was a hallmark of his life. Sundays were dedicated to gathering his sons to cheer for their favorite team, the New York Jets. An avid golfer, Patrick honed his skills on courses near and far, enjoying the camaraderie and adventure of the game. His passion for travel took him to Italy, England, the Caribbean, and even back to his beloved Ireland.

A talented craftsman, Patrick turned his love of carpentry into a career with the NYC Housing Authority. He found great joy in working with his hands and took pride in his ability to build and create.

Above all, Patrick’s world revolved around his family. He treasured the time spent together, whether sharing a meal, watching a game, or simply enjoying each other’s presence. His strength, love, and unwavering dedication to his family leave a legacy that will endure for generations.

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at Assumption BVM RC Church, 20 Chestnut Street, Centereach, NY 11720. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3442 Route 112, Coram, NY 11727.

Patrick will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
