Roger Edward McClean, Sr. passed away on June 22, 2021 at the age of 82. He is survived by his cherished wife Ann, his loving children, Robert, Maureen, Kathleen (“Cricket”) and Roger Jr., his beloved grandchildren, Nicholas, Samantha, Taylor, Conner, Michael, Roger III (“RJ”) and Rylee, and his loyal brother John (“Jack”). He is also survived by Maureen’s husband Russell, Cricket’s husband Allen, and Jack’s wife Carole. He is now reunited in Heaven with his Parents, John and Helen, his brother Bobby, his sister-in-law Barbara, and his furry friend Pup.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Roger loved telling stories of the old neighborhood, especially his Dodgers and the wise guys on the streets. Roger and Ann later moved to Mt. Sinai, New York where they spent 50 years raising their children and watching their grandchildren grow at their nest, “42”. A longtime member of the Port Jefferson Elks Lodge #2138, he spent many great days there playing stickball and many great nights enjoying the company of all of his friends. He and Ann spent their later winters in Naples, Florida, treasuring visits from their children, grandchildren, and siblings.
Roger will always be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his affinity for wisecracking, and his knack for giving nicknames that would last a lifetime. A sharp dresser with a love for Cadillacs and Mercedes, his impeccable style was common knowledge to anyone who knew him, and is still imitated by his loved ones today. A loving and generous man, Roger always wanted nothing but “the bestest” for his family. He always taught them to be mentally strong and emotionally resilient, character traits that will undoubtedly get them through this difficult time. Roger will be missed, but those whose lives he touched will never forget him.
