

Mary Sedgwick Meng, 92, of Port Lavaca passed away June 24, 2011. She was born May 28, 1919 in Ada, Oklahoma to the late James Lee and Minta Estelle Speights Eppler. Mary retired as a Secretary from Alcoa on January 1, 1982 and was the Proprietor of Razzle Dazzle Costumes. She also served as the choir director for 9 years at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church and was a member of the church since 1962. She sang in the “500 Member Texas Choir” for the Pope in 1987 in San Antonio, listed in “who’s who, worldwide” 1994/95 edition and a former member of Calhoun County Civic Choir. Mary wrote and published several songs including “The Lord is my Shepherd” which she used in church while directing the choir.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd L. Meng; his daughter Jennifer and husband Terry Hennen, their son Lucais and Floyd’s son Fred Meng; sons, Donald William (Bill) Sedgwick, Jr. and Joseph Randal (Randy) Sedgwick; sisters, Marguerite Vogt, Melba Gibbons and Wanda Northcutt; grandchildren, Tracy Sedgwick Jones, Carrie Sedgwick Garrett and Suzie Randle; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Bryson and Weston Jones, Catherine Windham, Kyle Garrett and Skylar Randle.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Don Sedgwick whom she was married to for 49 years; parents; daughter, Mary Ann (Nirmala) Sedgwick; brothers, Earl Eppler, J.M. (Speights) Eppler and Euell Eppler; sisters, Pauline Lillard, Lou Hudson, Ruby Johnson and Leone Turner.
A Celebration of Mary’s life will be held Monday, June 27, 2011 at 7 p.m. at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery, Father Ty Bazar officiating.
