Romulo P. Mesa Sr. passed away on February 17, 2026, at the age of 79. Visitation will be held on February 21, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Richardson Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am, with interment to follow at Port Lavaca Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Romulo Mesa, Jr., Matthew Mesa, Mason Mesa, Keith Mesa, Hunter Mesa and Brayson Mesa.
Romulo was a lifelong electrician and master tinkerer, known for his love of watching his novelas, wrestling and football (especially the Dallas Cowboys). He enjoyed playing golf and was skilled in leatherwork, crafting items such as belts and knife sheaths. A fan of BBQ, he not only relished eating it but also took pleasure in building BBQ pits. Romulo took great pride in maintaining his yard, especially in trimming his trees, which he considered an art. He was an admirer of all things John Wayne and James Bond, and he was often seen in his cowboy boots and cowboy hat. Romulo will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Alicia De Trevino Mesa; sons, Romulo Mesa, Jr. and Rey Mesa (Bernadete); daughter, Margaret Alvarez (Frankie); sisters, Rose Lawson (Ray) and Maria Gloria Trevino; and brothers, Tomas Mesa, Jr. and Manuel Mesa (Rhonda). He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Romulo was preceded in death by his father, Tomas Mesa, Sr.; mother, Jesusita Perez Mesa; sister, Maria Guadalupe Mesa; brothers, Jesse Mesa and Rudy Mesa; and grandson, Romulo (Trey) Mesa III.
