Velan Villarreal, a lifelong resident of Port Lavaca and a beacon of positivity to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, in Sugar Land, Texas. She was 66 years old. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.
Born on September 8, 1959, to Herman and Lydia (Montalvo) Villarreal, Velan was a proud graduate of Calhoun High School—a tradition she shared with all her siblings and her beloved son, David. Her career was defined by her service to her community, having worked for local auto dealerships and Walmart before joining the Calhoun Independent School District.
Velan was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother, Noah Crispin Villarreal. Her legacy of kindness lives on through her son, David Vincent Villarreal (Monica), and her seven siblings: Velia Moya, Yolanda (Carey) Snyder, Vilma (Roberto) DeLeon, Dora Martinez, Christine (Gregorio) Falcon, Homer (Valeria) Villarreal, and Oscar (Sylvia) Villarreal. She also leaves behind 15 nieces and nephews, and a large, loving generation of grand-nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her radiant spirit and the lasting influence she had on her friends, family, and coworkers.
A visitation will be held at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home on March 26, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow in the funeral home chapel at 7:00 pm.
