Carole was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on November 4, 1937. She was the oldest of three children, having two younger brothers, Bronnie and Billie, who were twins. Her family moved to St. Augustine, Florida, in the 1940s. In 1956, she married her first husband, John Thomas Brock (“Tom”). They had four children: John, David, Todd, and Elizabeth, all born in St. Augustine.
In addition to being a loving homemaker, Carole spent many years working as a legal secretary. She was always the head secretary wherever she worked, being highly organized, skilled in shorthand, and adept at transposing very technical medical terminology into legal filings. Tom’s career with Florida East Coast Railroad necessitated moving the Brock family twice; first to Titusville, and then to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Carole made friends easily and developed close friendships everywhere she went.
Carole and Tom divorced in the mid-1970s, and in 1980, Carole met her second husband, William “Wille” Dobbin, a native of the country Scotland. Carole and Willie moved to Scotland, where they lived for several years before returning to Florida. She managed the “Cutty Sark”, a pub in a small town near Glascow, and she always spoke fondly of her time there. Carole and Wille were divorced in the mid-1980s.
In 1986, while attending a class reunion for her high school in St. Augustine, Carole reconnected with an old friend, Charles “Charlie” Weidman. Carole and Charlie were in the same graduating class at Ketterlinus High School. Although they did not date in high school, they quickly became close and were married in 1989. They were married for 25 years, until Charlie passed in 2014.
Carole loved all of the holidays, especially Christmas, when she would bake for days on end, giving her famous cookies to all her friends and family. She was a skilled seamstress, making many of her own dresses and blouses. She was an avid reader, and she also loved knitting and quilting.
She was predeceased by her three husbands, her grandson Thomas, and by her daughter Elizabeth. She is survived by her three sons John(Liz), David(Sheila), and Todd(Margaret), and six grandchildren: Breanne, Amanda, Tara, Marshall, Matthew, and Darrin. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
