

Charles R (Bob) McArdell, 90, of Daytona Beach Shores, died in the comfort of his own home late Saturday night surrounded by his loving family.He was born July 4, 1924, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to the late Charles V. and Mary (Haran) McArdell. Bob was a United States Marine Corps veteran, having served as a tail gunner in WWII from 1943-1945, and was awarded an Air Medal for achievement in aerial flight against enemy forces.He graduated from St. Bonaventure University in Allegheny, NY in 1949 with a B.S. in Accounting. He started out managing at Chrysler, then went on to pursue his career as a self-employed public accountant until he finished practicing. He continued on with accounting for many years, including participating as a volunteer AARP tax preparer and educator for individuals in Daytona Beach, FL.He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, was a lifetime member of Marine Corps League , Public Accounting Association, and a volunteer for the Irish American Club.An avid lover of the water, he and his wife Patricia of 66 years have spent over 3 decades between both Henderson Harbor, NY and Daytona Beach Shores, FL, which has been their permanent residence for the last two years. The couple also indulged in their passion of traveling, which has allowed them to see many different parts of the world.Bob was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is predeceased by two daughters, Mary Ellen McArdell and Patricia Hall. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia B., daughters Eileen O'Connor of Syracuse, NY, and Barbara Alten of Liverpool, NY, son Lawrence of Daytona Beach, FL, grandchildren Kevin (Jaime) O'Connor, Daniel O'Connor, Joe Alten, Kathleen, Sean and Gerard Hall, and great-granddaughters Jillian, Jordan and Avery O'Connor. Calling hours will be held at Shannon Maloney Funeral Home in Port Orange, FL on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 2-4pm, followed by funeral services on June 25, 2015 at 10am at the Catholic Church of the Epiphany in Port Orange. Services in Syracuse, NY will be held at a later date at Tindall Funeral Home, with burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in DeWitt, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Halifax Health Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Tr. Port Orange, FL 32129.
