

Harold E Sperr, 87, of Port Orange Florida passed away on July 31, 2014. Harold was born on August
12, 1926, in Shenandoah, PA son of Elizabeth (Evans) and Fred Sperr. He was raised on a small farm and
it was there he developed his strong work ethic and his love of the Lord. The first one in his family
to graduate from college, Harold earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Physics from
Lehigh University. He continued his Graduate Studies at the University of New Hampshire and Rutgers
University concentrating on Engineering Analysis and Management.Prior to attending college Harold proudly
served in the U.S. Navy and he is listed on the National World War II Memorial Registry of Remembrance.
After completing boot camp in New York he was transferred into the Seabees Naval construction Battalion 20th
at Camp Parks, CA. He served on Saipanin the Mariana Islands and Okinawa. At the end of WWII he was assigned to the destroyer U.S.S. Charles
P. Cecil, DD835 where he patrolled Japanese area waters. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and
continued to serve in the Navy Reserves until 1950.Harold had an extensive career in Engineering starting at General Electric.
He also worked for Aerospace Group, McDonnell Aircraft Corp., Tedford Crystal Laboratories, Kenner Products Company, and Tappan
Company. He had a wealth of in-depth, varied experiences and believed with a proper attitude and skill
one can achieve profitable results, which he did. His career brought his family too many areas of the
country living mostly in the North East and the Midwest.Harold’s faith was important to him. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Port Orange where hewas an active participant serving on various church committees. Wherever he and his family lived they
were always active church members serving as a deacon, singing in the Choir, or serving on committees
Harold’s stewardship clearly demonstrated his love for the Lord.He was also a supporter for Christian and conservative causes. He carefully evaluated those he supported. He even ran for political office while living in NH, running for State Representative.His family will always remember his gift to them of a good education, strong work ethic, love for Christ and enjoying riddles and jokes. After his retirement in 1995 he and his wife moved to Fl. settling in Port Orange. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 66 years, Margaret; children, Ann Henson, Middlesex NC; Wesley Sperr, St Louis, MO. Sharon Osborne, Wooster, OH; Marlene Glassey , Rocky Mt., NC; David Sperr, Anderson SC and Randy Sperr, Lindale TX.; sister, Emily New, Yorktown, PA ; brother, William Sperr, Peabody, MA ;11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
