

James “Jim” Francis Murrison, Sr., age 73, passed from this life on Monday, January 1, 2024. He was born on June 18, 1950, in Philadelphia, PA, where he attended King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, PA, before moving to Port Orange, FL, in 1973. Jim was employed by Daytona Beach Police Department and later worked at Daytona Beach Fire Department where he retired as a Captain in 1993. He also was an instructor at Daytona Beach Community College from 1979-1987 before he had a second career at FedEx, retiring in 2008. Jim’s many interests included freshwater fishing, where he participated in and won local fishing competitions, as well as an avid NASCAR and Philadelphia Eagles fan. He was a lifelong music lover, particularly The Moody Blues, and was always happy to stop and chat with his friends at the local Publix, Gaff’s Quality Meats, and all around town.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents James and Catherine Murrison. Jim is survived by his son, James “Jake” (Lynn) Murrison Jr, daughters, Shannon (Gary) Fowler, Robin (Joe) Fenwick, and Brandy Pierce. He is also remembered by nine grandchildren, with one more on the way, and a great-grandchild, with two more on the way. Also surviving is his brother Bill (Jackie) Murrison, sister Beth (Jim) Legary, and brother Al (Denise) Murrison.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 12:00-3:00pm at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home—Port Orange. The Daytona Beach Fire Department Honor Guard will be performing a bell service. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial gift to the American Heart Association in Jim’s name.
