Kenneth J Modzelewski

Ken was born in Trenton, New Jersey, on 2/16/1952 to Eugene and Helen Modzelewski also of Trenton, New Jersey. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet, daughter, Laura Russell, (spouse Scott), grand children, Shane and Carly, Russell, brothers, Eugene, (spouse Wendy), Gerald, (spouse Laura), nephews, Keith, Jordan, and niece, Kendra.

Ken was a graduate of Trenton State University, where he successfully pursued a degree in criminal justice, and Nova University where he comminuted his studies Earning a Master's in Criminal Justice. Ken began his career with the New Jersey State Law Enforcement and Planning Agency (SLEPA). He left New Jersey in 1977 to join the Pasco County Police Department. He attended and graduated from the Pasco County Police Academy. He was appointed the position of grant writer for the county sheriff's department. He was promoted to Director of Pasco County Jail. Some of Ken's accomplishments while employed by Pasco County Sheriff's department were authorizing the 911 policy and practices; he was actively involved in the activities associated with the Pasco County Cadet Corps.

Ken left Pasco County to become the Director of Daytona Beach Airport Security. In 1992 Ken joined the department of public safety and retired in 2007 with the rank of captain. In addition to Ken's public service positions, he was an adjunct instructor at Saint Leo's College, Daytona Beach College, and Kaiser college.

Retirement did not suit Ken, so he pursued his interest in real estate and became a broker and join the Board of Realtors in Volusia County.

Ken had many other interests, such as antiques, collectibles, and a strong passion for Corvettes. Ken was a member of the East Coast Cruisers Car Club and a former member of the Ponce Inlet Corvette Club. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #149.

Ken was also called Santa Claus on occasion and gladly accepted the role.

He will be missed by all who knew and loved him!
