Born in Ft. Bragg, NC to Stephen Charles Doherty, Sr. and Elizabeth Kathleen (nee Ensign) Doherty, Michael Patrick Doherty, more commonly known as Mike, graduated in 1976 from Mainland High School, where he was in the ROTC program. Continuing his dedication and service to his country, Mike enlisted in the US Army after graduation and served until 1983. Relocating to the Port Orange area, he soon found employment with the United States Postal Service, where he was a clerk at the Daytona Beach branch off of Jimmy Ann. An Irishman through and through, Mike had a sense of adventure, humor, and optimism about him that could become infectious. Away from work, he enjoyed motorcycles – particularly his Harley, guns and gunsmithing, and photography. Mike passed away suddenly at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach. He leaves behind brother, Stephen (Annette) Doherty, brother William Doherty, and sister Katy Doherty; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
A Celebration of Mike’s Life, to include military honors, will be held Sunday, August 16th at 1:00pm in the chapel of Shannon Maloney Funeral Home, 4084 Halifax Drive, Port Orange FL.
