Peggy Faye "Mema" Tanner

Peggy Tanner, 74, went to be with our Lord on September 22, 2016 surrounded by her loving husband and devoted children. Born in Alma, Georgia on June 23, 1942, she was an incredible wife, mother, sister, friend, grandmother and great grandmother. Peggy loved her family and many close friends she considered to be family dearly. Affectionately known as Mema, she was a great cook and loved cooking for her family and was especially known for her Thanksgiving dressing and banana pudding. Holidays were important to Mema, she loved spending Thanksgiving and Christmas surrounded by family.

Mema was a devout Christian. She was a member of Spruce Creek Baptist Church in Port Orange. She had so many great friends there and loved the service as well as her Sunday School class. The family is forever grateful for the support she received from the pastor, elders and close friends at SCBC.

Peggy moved from Alma, Georgia to Jacksonville, Florida as a teenager where she eventually met and married her husband of 56 years, Bobby Tanner, whom survives and is also affectionately known as Pepa. Daytona Beach became home for them in 1966 where they settled down and watched their children and grandchildren grow. Mema was one of five sisters, three of whom survive: Norma Blanton of Maitland, FL, Wilma Lord of Raleigh, NC, and Sandra Pritchard of Jacksonville, FL. Also left to cherish her memory are children: Scott (Michelle) Tanner of Winter Garden, FL, Tracy Caudill of Edgewater, FL, and Brock (Jennifer) Tanner of Palm Coast, FL; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, 9/30/2016 from 6-8pm in the chapel of Shannon Maloney Funeral Home, 4084 Halifax Drive, Port Orange FL. A Funeral Service will be held at 11am Saturday 10/1/16 at Spruce Creek Baptist Church, 1952 Taylor Road, Port Orange FL, with Rev. Steve Loy officiating. A luncheon at the church will follow. Donations may be made in Peggy’s memory to the John Wayne Cancer Institute, Saint John’s Health Center Foundation, 2121 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90404.
