

He is survived by his aunt Rumi Rice of Carlsbad, CA and his cousins Peter Rice of Lincoln, CA, Carroll Fergusson of Carmel, CA, Patricia Rice of Auburn, MA, Kevin Rice of Worcester, MA, David Rice of Boylston, MA, Ann DeBiasio of Shrewsbury, MA, and his loving companion Margaret Hunt of Salisbury, CT and Port Orange, FL. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years of marriage Monica Hurley Meehan of Waverly, NY.
Peter was born on August 22, 1932 to Martha Rice and William Meehan. He attended school in Worcester, MA and joined the United States Navy, where he served his nation with pride and patriotism. He married Monica Hurley in 1948. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Hollywood, FL, where began a long career at Eastern Airlines in Miami. He continued his career with Eastern Airlines by moving JFK International Airport and lived in Queens, New York until he retired. After retirement, Monica and Peter moved to a beautiful home in Nazareth, PA and enjoyed a peaceful, stress-free life. After cancer took Monica from Peter in 2007, he moved to be near his extended family the Dreilings and Kidds in Orlando and Port Orange, Florida. He enjoyed his daily routine of socializing at the Eagles Club, American Legion, VFW, AMVETS and, of course, Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. At lunchtime daily, you could find Peter at Boondocks Restaurant in Daytona Beach Shores, enjoying the boatyard, warm weather and good company.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, March 9 at 8:30am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Port Orange. Interment at the Cape Canaveral National Veterans Cemetery in Mims, FL at 11:30am will follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Peter’s life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Association.
