Peter J. Scianablo, 69, passed away suddenly suddenly of a heart attack on Saturday, April 2, 2016 and joined his father, Peter J. Scianablo Sr. and son, Sean in the Lord's House at the age of 69 years. Born on March 5, 1947 in Queens, New York, Peter is survived by his son, Justin Scianablo of Daytona Beach; brothers, Thomas (Joanne) Scianablo of South Daytona, and Richard Scianablo of Cooperstown, New York; his 90 year old mother, Marie Scianablo of South Daytona, and several beloved nieces and nephews. Pete was a Vietnam Veteran and served in the Air Force from 1966 to 1970. He and his brother, Tom moved from Long Island, NY to Daytona Beach in 1990 where they co-owned Tombstone Silverworks and DaytonaBikeWeek.com. Known to his music fans as "Peter J.", Pete was a very talented singer and musician and played shows with the Platters, Drifters, Del Vikings, Bo Diddley, etc. and his band, the Mello Kings. Composing "The Ballad Of Winter ", a song detailing the story of Winter, a dolphin rescued from the river that had a damaged tail, he performed this song on a DVD which became instrumental in the creation of the movie, Dolphin Tale. Although he was proud of the ballad he wrote, he was definitely a DooWop man but also had his Rock n Roll side. He was a man of faith and became an ordained minister and wrote, recorded, and performed some lovely gospel and contemporary Christian music. In recent years, he received great joy in performing for the elderly at countless local nursing homes and care centers, as well as the Elks Club, VFW, New Smyrna Yacht Club and Sugar Mill Country Club. Wearing his military uniform for shows during Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day performances, he'd get a tear in his eye when he would sing Lee Greenwood's "I'm Proud to be an American." Over the last few months, his passion was building a website to capture and archive his music. It's a blessing that he finished the first phase of the project so that his family, friends, and fans can enjoy his music long after his passing. His music is his legacy. The best tribute that can be paid to Pete is to visit the new website, http://peterjmusicalmemories.com, listen to some of his music and read his musicography. He was particularly proud of the gospel songs he wrote, Love Came Down...and Born to Worship. In addition to his music, a link is available on the website in order to leave your own memories of Pete. A Celebration of Pete's life will be held at the Port Orange Elks Club #2723, 5207 S. Ridgewood Ave. from 4 to 6 pm on Friday, April 8th, followed by a night of Pete's musical recordings from 6 to 9 pm. Flowers gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Port Orange VFW Post 3282 Veterans Military Assistance Program.
