Then when in college he worked part time for NASA earning the funds to support his college education. He graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in physics. While working for various US Government agencies, he completed his Master’s Degree from the University of Alabama.

He is predeceased by his father Irving Gold, his mother A. Rachel Gold, his brother Allen Gold, and a grandson Tayte Compton.
In his retirement, it was a passion of Richard’s to write poetry. This was something that his mother loved, and Richard also developed a love for it. He published many topic-related books of poems he had written throughout his retirement. Of note, when Richard would sign his poem books, along with his name, he would use the statement – Praise the Lord!
