Shirl was from South New Jersey, and moved to Port Orange, FL, in 2001 after retirement from 21 years with 3M Corp. She was employed here with CVS Pharmacy and had a passion for music – singing all her life, in band, shows, etc. Shirl also became a DJ and loved to entertain at retirement homes. She was also well known for doing karaoke at local clubs, such as the Eagles and Moose Lodge where she was a member. Shirl attended many churches in the area, and loved the Lord.
Left to celebrate her life are her beloved children: daughter Michele (Richard) Morgenthaler of Georgia, son Nicholas Petruzzi of North Carolina, daughter Kelly Ann (Michael, Sr.) Hiller of New Jersey; brother, Robert (Connie) Everingham; and many wonderful friends in New Jersey and Florida, including Lisa Petruzzi. Additionally, she will be remembered by grandchildren Nicholas (Alisha) Petruzzi, Amanda (Nate) Nguyen, Garrett Petruzzi, Alyssa Morgenthaler, and Bree Morgenthaler, along with great grandchildren: Natalie, Nova, Amelia and Michael Jr, as well as many nieces and nephews in New Jersey.
Friends and family will gather Friday, May 16, beginning at 1 pm at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home – Port Orange, 4815 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., for a Celebration of Shirl’s Life and Legacy, with a formal service to begin at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Smile Train, P.O. Box 96231, Washington DC 20090 – both causes were near and dear to Shirl’s heart.
A final note from Shirl – “I’m at rest, cry not – I always loved my sleep you know!”
