Carol was born September 9, 1938 in Washington D.C. and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Verna Gura of Arlington, VA.
Carol was raised in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Anacostia High School. She was married to the late Clifton C. Walters, Jr. and also to the late Irwin M. Shnayer.
She worked in Virginia for a period of time as the assistant to Joseph Alexander, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. After leaving that position she worked for the Fairfax County Health Department. Among various administrative positions in the Environmental Health field, she served the Springfield District Office, as the Office Service Manager until she retired.
Carol was also on the HOA Board of the Burke Conservancy for the Summer Oak Cluster, while residing in Burke, VA. In August of 2011, when she relocated to Port St Lucie, FL to live with her daughter.
Her hobbies included a love of gardening, shore fishing, bird watching, and for those who knew her well "shopping".
Carol is survived by her daughter, Jeannette M. Owens,(Douglas W. Owens, Jr.) of Port St Lucie; her son Michael S. Walters(Deanna L. Walters)of St. Cloud, FL; her son, Paul K. Shnayer (Deanna Shnayer), of Marbury, MD.
Carol also had five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one nephew that she is survived by: Shannon L. Pohl,( Robert J. Pohl), Jennifer N. Langlois, (Shawn M. Langlois), Christopher S. Shnayer, Faith M. Walters, and Nicholas Shnayer; Brooklyn N. Langlois, Austin M. Langlois, Jocelyn G. Pohl and Abigail J. Pohl; Joseph P. Gura Jr.
Carol is survived by her brother Thomas R. Miles and his wife, Thelma Sandra Miles of Centreville, VA and pre-deceased by her brother Joseph P. Gura of Falls Church, VA.
A celebration of Life Service will be held for Carol at the First United Methodist Church of Port St Lucie, FL on Saturday, July 14,2018 at 3:30 with a reception following.
