Evelyn Normandy, age 90, of Port St Lucie, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2023. She was born on April 10, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, to James and Filomena Montanino, the youngest daughter of seven children.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Michael L. Normandy, and four sisters and two brothers. She is survived by one son, Michael (wife, Margaret) of Savannah, Georgia; two daughters, Renee N. Shane (husband, Ronnie) of Port St. Lucie, Florida; and Michele G. Buscaino (husband, Michael) of St. Petersburg, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was “Grandma” and “Nonna” to beloved grandchildren, Lacie Normandy Vanderlip (husband, Scotty) of Alpharetta, Georgia and Michael A. Buscaino of Hazel Park, Michigan. Her warm heart welcomed her nephew Richard Di Lapi as one of her own and raised him throughout the summers. Evelyn had the greatest honor of being the “head flower girl” at Richard’s daughter’s wedding, Jenifer Di Lapi Anderson (husband, Brad).
Evelyn attended High School in Queens, NY at John Adams High School and was well-remembered as one of the popular “Ko-Kettes.” She remained friends with several of her “Ko-Kette Sisters,” and they enjoyed numerous reunions over the years. Following high school, Evelyn worked as a charette at the Alden Theatre, oftentimes being introduced to celebrities such as Milton Berle, and loved reminiscing about those days. While raising her family, in addition to being involved in many community activities, she served as a 25-year Volunteer at the Boca Raton, FL Humane Society. Because of her dedication and love of animals, Evelyn was awarded the Humane Society Volunteer of the Year for her faithful service. Evelyn enjoyed playing tennis and made numerous trips with her tennis friends to Mexico where they joined with clubs for international play. In addition to tennis, Evelyn also enjoyed golf, kick boxing, spinning, yoga classes, aquacise and her most favorite pastime....riding her “trike.”
A memorable part of Evelyn’s life was working as an assistant for photo shoots in South Florida for notable companies. During these occasions, she became acquainted with many models and celebrities such as Celine Dion, Sophia Vergara, Serena and Venus Williams, Chris Evert, Gianni Versace, Heidi Klum, Gisele Bundchen, Nikki Taylor, among others, leaving her lasting influence. Evelyn was a devout Christian sharing her love for Jesus to everyone she met. Throughout her life, Evelyn remained active in her church and enjoyed her weekly Ladies Bible Studies. She always surrounded herself with people and was dearly loved by all who knew her. Her strong Christian legacy will remain with all she touched.
A private family burial will be held at South Florida National Cemetery prior to a Celebration of Life that will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 from 2- 5pm at St. Lucie Trails Country Club, 951 SW Country Club Dr, Port Saint Lucie, FL 34986. The family would like to invite anyone to share special memories starting at 3pm.
