Gary Alan Burley passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at the age of 38. He joins his Father, Edward A. Burley and his beloved dog Jake in death. He is survived by his Mother, Janis (Nagle) Burley; Uncle Gerry Nagle; Uncle Dennis Nagle and Aunt Trish Nagle; Sister Amanda Willick; Sister Allison (Willick) Krulikowski and Niece Sawyer Krulikowski.
His passing leaves an unfillable hole in the hearts of his family and friends. Gary spent his childhood doted on by his parents and family with soccer and sports dominating his world. He was a sweet young boy who excelled at soccer, football, hockey and graduated from John Carroll High School. His college career was at Missouri Valley where he joined Sigma Nu, and would never be the same again – for the better. He graduated with a degree that would ensure he would always be helping people.
Gary grew into a man of many interests and his continued love of sports was apparent to anyone he encountered. His personality remained sweet and kind throughout his short life. He had a spirit for life and loved to be living it. He was funny and silly and never lost that childlike faith and wonder for the world. Gary’s passion was always mentoring youth and helping others to be their best selves. His career with Project Lift was an important part of Gary’s life of which he was extremely proud to be a part. He didn’t mind taking the extra time and steps if it meant that he could help or better explain anything and everything he knew. Gary looked forward to his weekends refereeing on the soccer fields teaching children the laws – not rules – and the fundamentals of soccer.
In lieu of flowers, Gary’s Mother is requesting donations be made in his honor to Project Lift https://www.projectlift.org/
