I wish I had seen this sooner...I have such fond memories of Coach during my 4 summers at Camp Ocala and 1 summer at Camp Blue Ridge. I'm not sure what prompted me to check on him today, but I'm glad I did. Coach was a special man and boss.  He knew when and how to be tough, yet he was completely fair.  He was in my corner more than once when I needed it, and I will never forget his example of supporting me especially when the chips were down.  He was a great man! RIP Coach!

Dear Denise,
It seems like I've known Coach my entire life, well at least since I was a young teenager. I was Gary's little sister which made me his little sister also!.  He always seemed bigger than life to me. Always had an interesting story to tell and you couldn't help being caught up in the excitement as he would talk about life and the things he had done in his life. And I believe he did have a wonderful life. One of my favorite memories is when we all gathered at my Mom and Dad's for Christmas dinner. I believe your mother was with us as well. We laughed and visited well into the evening. Alex, my son, was just about 6 months old at the time and I had brought his little "Johnny jump up" swing. We hung it on to the beam between the kitchen and dining table. I think we almost have laughed for an hour watching him bounce up and down and giggle. I remember coach especially getting such a kick out of watching him bounce. I will always cherish that wonderful evening of fun and laughter and of being together. Although I hadn't seen coach in a few years I always asked Gary how he was doing and would get the latest news. I know heaven will be a better place with coach in it because he will bring his larger-than-life Life personality and presence. He will be truly missed but never forgotten. Love, Kim and family

Denise,  I'm so sorry to hear of Coach's passing. He was a wonderful man that no one could ever forget. I loved him like a father.  Praying for you and your family! Will never forget him. Love you, Robin!

As a student at the Mesivta of Miami Beach, in the early 1970’s, I first remember Coach from our activities at Flamingo Park.   He worked us hard.  
A few years later I was a counselor at Camp Ocala.  Coach had a magical charisma unlike anyone I knew.  
Ten years later, we reconnected and eventually I became the accountant and a partner at Camp Blue Ridge.     
I fondly remember Coach during most of my adult life, first as a student, then as an employee, and then in business.   He was always a “larger than life” person and a great man.   
I am saddened by his passing.   He touched so many people during his life and our world is a better place because of him.  
R I P Coach -  we will not forget you.

I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to the Montgomery family. "Coach" as he was known to many was the physical education coach at the Hebrew Academy on Miami Beach for many years. I was a student there from 1960-1969 and Coach Montgomery, as a young man, was a bigger than life figure.  He was a role model and showed some tough love by teaching discipline, values and respect.  He encouraged children to reach for their potential and was loved by many.  Those of us under his tutelage will never forget the calisthenics, climbing the ropes or running around the Golf Course under his watchful eye and the sting of a plastic bat which he playfully would swing near us to keep us moving.  Even though I haven't seen him in decades, I will always remember him as one of my favorite teachers. RIP Coach.


Blessed to have inherited my red hair from Coach’s mother.  Also, named after her!!

He was very speciall!!  Thank you, Aunt Lib for letting me know my father passed!  I regret he didn’t get to know his grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Beautiful memories shared here and I’ll add some photos when I return home!  Lifting prayers for all who feel this loss.
